Every critical care area is different so the intention of the information given here is to help patients, their families, friends and carers to understand better what is happening during each step of the process, and to know what sources of assistance are available, but not to give detailed information on specific units or conditions.
Patients are admitted to such areas with many different conditions.
Some improving patients will first move from ICU to the high dependency area.
