SICS RESIDENTS MEETING JAN 2026

The SICS Residents Meeting (formerly Trainee Meeting) is back!

Come along for excellent speakers, a chance to present your work at a friendly national meeting, and networking with critical care colleagues from all over Scotland!

The meeting will be held at the historic Scotsman Hotel, which is immediately next to Waverley Station, so it is very conveniently located for commuting by train.

- Dr Daniele Bryden (outgoing Dean of FICM) on her tenure as Dean and the transition to CICM

- Dr Simon Crawley (consultant in Tayside and immediate past chair of the Scottish Airway Group) on airway management in ITU

- Dr Gilly Fleming (consultant in Lothian and deputy chair of FICM Education sub-committee) on transitioning from registrar to consultant

- Dr Martin Hughes (former SICS President and lead for Clinical Reasoning at University of Glasgow medical school) on clinical reasoning

- Liver failure in ITU

Abstract Competition:

  • We are welcoming abstracts for oral presentation at the meeting. All delegates are welcome to submit an abstract under the categories of Research, Quality Improvement or Case Report.
  • The top 3 abstracts will be invited to deliver a short oral presentation at the meeting, with the best presentation being awarded a prize!
  • All presenters will receive a certificate, and abstracts not selected for oral presentation will automatically be submitted to the abstract competition for SICS ASM 2026, where both poster and oral presentations will be available.
  • Abstracts should be sent to sicstrainees@gmail.com
  • Closing date for submissions: FRIDAY 12th DECEMBER 2025.

Abstract guidance:

  • Abstracts should be maximum 250 words (excluding title/authors).
  • Please list all authors with affiliations. At least one author must be registered to attend the meeting, and all named authors must be aware of submission.
  • For Research / QI submissions please comment on ethical / regulatory approval as appropriate (e.g. Ethics committee, Caldicott Guardian approval).
  • For case reports, written consent must be sought from patients who have data used in either a case report or case series (click here to download consent form)
  • Submission of the abstract constitutes the consent of all authors to publication (e.g. Conference website, programme or promotions).
  • Abstracts will be judged on the novelty, importance and impact of the work. The decision of the judges is final.
  • Successful submissions will be notified by email within 1 week of the abstract deadline.
