SICS Travel Grant

The aim of this grant is to support travel to study or experience critical care in an environment/location different from the individual’s normal workplace.

What is the grant?

What is the Travel Grant? The Scottish Intensive Care Society are keen to support members to expand their knowledge and skills by supporting travel to environments that support the development of critical care expertise in the broadest sense. Each year there are a maximum of two grants available to the value of £2000 each to cover reasonable costs.

Successful applicants will need to provide evidence of the cost of their trip to enable appropriate funds to be released. The grant is open to all SICS members across the multidisciplinary team and joining the society at the time of application is acceptable.

There is an expectation that the successful travel grant winner will share their learning and experience with the Society and the Scottish ICU Community. This will include an oral presentation at an SICS event (usually the annual scientific meeting) and a written report (approx. 1000 words) for publication on the website. There is an expectation the following would be included:

• Why have you chosen this destination for your learning?

• What experience was gained at this location?

• How does practice compare with your local unit and Scotland as a whole?

• Are there any training differences applicable to your chosen area?

• Would you recommend this experience to others?

• What have you gained personally from this opportunity?

To apply please send the following to the Honorary Secretary (Dr Pauline Austin) by email – Pauline.austin@nhs.scot.

• A one page summary of your proposed project

• projected costs

• anticipated benefits of the trip • details of any other sources of funding or applications for funding,

• a letter of support from the institution to be visited is desired

The SICS Council will review all applications and a marking scheme can be found below.

Closing date for applications is 31st July 2025.

Successful applicants will be notified by 31st August 2025. Further details: Pauline.austin@nhs.scot
